I got your letter! What a exciting and happy surprise! It was really sweet and I enjoyed it emmensley, I will have to start replying soon since I keep thinking of things to say in response to it! But, we’ll see how that goes, I’m horrible at that kind of thing =]
I just got back from both. I sort of love bookstores and books. I could spend hours in them. Anyway! I just got back from them both and I got one of the many Japanese books I want! I am going full steam ahead with reading about, planning, deciding, figuring out, day dreaming etc with Japan. I think the book is going to be great too.
I looked at quite a few and decided I need to wait for James to pick out some language books. We both need to feel comfortable with the style of learning the language and how the books are laid out. Also, I want to get one with audio CDs, I really don’t see how I can learn how to pronounce things properly without it. I wouldn’t mind taking a class somewhere! So much to do…
Anyway (again)! I ended up with a book that is a cross between a travel guide and cultural guide. Actually it’s more towards the cultural. It’s about Japan’s history and about their customs and ways of life. How everything works! It’s really well laid out and looks really interesting. I might have to start reading it after Grave Surprise (currently reading).
Ok, I think everyone can tell I might be a bit excited right now so I think I’ll go chill in the bath and read, night!
I’m just browsing amazon for Japan travel guides/culture books. I want to start reading and planning and dreaming about it right away! I found three possible books and I think I’ll get two of them, but all three look good, in different ways! It’ll be tough. I haven’t even started to look at Japanese language books! I guess I should keep in mind that James has the Eyewitness Japan book..
I’m not getting any books on London though, I already have the Eyewitness and now James and I both have London A to Z, and I have the London moleskine which is amazing and I think when people travel they should aways get one if they plan on staying there for a good amount of time, or plan on returning to that city. They become a personalized travel guide, exactly fitted to you!
Planning life out can be so exciting and fun sometimes. As long as I stay positive about it, and think optimistically that all that I want in life and want to work towards, can and will happen (especially when my fiance wants to do the same things/go the same places). I try not to spend my time worrying and/or stressing about life and all that encompasses it. I need to try harder at that though.
I feel happy and excited right now though! Hope it lasts.
Everywhere I look people are in London and talking about London and I have this huge longing and desire to go back. I miss it so much, it’s like feeling homesick, but for an experience I can never truly relive. And, that’s ok really, just as long as I can go back and have new experiences and adventures!
I want to go back so bad, I haven’t really travelled in a year and, it’s painful!
James and I have decided that in 2 to 3 years, we’re going to move to Japan! We’re going to try and do it through the JET program, which I think would be awesome. After that we’ll probably try to live in London for a bit! I hope my life turns out awesome like I plan in my head!
Oh jeez, I forgot what a lightweight I am these days! But it’s also economical, I suppose!
How I knew: When I stopped to go into our house, first I kind of paused and realised I was swaying a lot (hahaha) and then I took up my wallet to unlock the house. Yes. Sense. Makes none.
Hahaha. Oh well. Went for a meal with my MA coursemates, which was nice! Good times. Now lazily prepping for London tomorrow, hurrah! My train is pretty early, so need to be all packed by the time I go to bed.
You’ll be in London while my fiance is in London! You should say a mental “hi!” to him =]
Yesterday my family was finally able to get together and have my graduation dinner! We picked my brother up around noon and headed to Ann Arbor. It’s a cool little urban city that has been able to maintain it’s local charm while being densely populated by college students from UofM. I was very surprised to see how lively the city-town was on a sunday!
We had an amazing time. We stopped by an artisans market in Kerry Town, they had an amazing book binding place there. It was huge with every type of large paper you can imagine, plus loads of fun books, notes books, journals, and all sorts. I spent a good twenty minutes browsing and it wasn’t enough. I think I may apply to work there when James gets here. I did end up getting two very different London maps (as paper but I’ll have as poster). One is very accurate while the other is very fun and colorful.
After a bit of shopping, it was only 2.30 when we all realized we were a bit hungry. None of the nice dinner places opened until 5, so we decided to find a place to eat something small. I’m not sure what the place was called but us four split three different dishes. strawberry banana waffles, berry crepe, and some exotic amazing tasting sandwich!
Afterwards we went to what is now my new favorite store, vault of midnight! I ended up getting a mystery vinyl toy that they had left over from about a year ago. They no longer had the box and didn’t know what series it was from. I bought it and today James did some research and was able to find out what it’s called! It’s A cucos series…I also got a tokidoki plushie! It’s adorable, it’s the pink ciao ciao girl, one day I’ll get the adios guy and I’ll have the cute couple! My brother got some things there too. It’s an amazing store, large, full of vinyl toys, plushies, manga, comic books, board games, all things nerdy and great!
This is getting super long! I think I’ll post a few pictures later, and then finish telling of my lovely day…because it made me happy =] !
so, I saw this post and I was thinking about what kind of a geek I really am.
I’m not a comic book geek. I speak a little Comic Book. like, if I went to a country where the dominant language was Comic Book, I could totally find a bathroom and food that won’t kill me, but probably not a whole heck of a lot else. I like comic books, but I am most definitely not fluent in that geekery.
Honestly, I think about it differently. It’s being very passionate about something! It can be in anything. I think I’m a geek because I’m totally obsessed with certain things. I love designer/vinyl toys and I have a little collection, I love going to the stores that sell them and looking at them, I follow certain brands on tumblr, I have hoodies and pillow cases!
I’m a bit of a Studio Ghibli geek because I own most of the movies, I have film comics, plushies, even manga! I’m a geek for the things I love and enjoy. The way certain things make me happy and I can’t get enough, I’m a muse geek, book geek, happy geek! And I think if you thought about it you would find you’re a geek in lots of ways, as long as you’re ok with that being part of who you are =]
I realize you were talking about traditional geeks, genres that is. But our culture evolves and so does our language and what things mean. I try to embrace it all.
I got two calls today for preliminary interviews…. They’re not especially jobs I want but I’m going to use this chance to practice interviewing. I did cancel one though because I realized it was over an hour away for a low position job, it wouldn’t of been worth it. There is one in Troy I wouldn’t mind having. I looked it up and it sounds interesting but I’m not 100% sure on what they do. Mom and I are going to buy me an outfit to wear and go over interviewing at dinner tonight.
I just got an email from another place for a phone interview! This is getting a little out of hand.
I need to read in the bath to relax. I bet with all this sudden commotion, I’ll end up right where I started.
